There are some places we go and some scenes we see and they remain with us forever.

Sakinaw Lake is just such a place, providing scenes that we remember forever and that is a good thing because we never know when the last night might be the last look.

One of those bright winter days where the frost clings to everything but without the sun cannot sparkle.

You need to see this one in person. For some reason my camera is making the background a green blue but in reality the background is a real BC blue - a blue like the colour of the sky in August when there wasn't a cloud in sight.

This was one of those days.

The Arbutus is the most sensual of trees - its shape and lines like a dancer caught in a single frame.

A familiar view but the interpretation, as Wordsworth wrote, is a recollection in tranquility.

That's the magic and beauty of dreams, that's the luxury of painting where we can make the colours anything we want.

Sakinaw Dream #2

Continuing a little more of the mystery -

what is it you see across the lake? Is it even a lake? Might it not be a calm ocean bay or a field or even sand?

A scarlet sky from the setting sun or the glow of a fire?

Is it smoke or fog or snow gracing the other side? And why are the rocks red? What rocks you ask?

This is the beauty of art - it can be what you want it to be. It is what you see when you want to see it.

Hang these two so close they touch or move them apart and watch the scene stretch.
