(Memo to self: this must become a more frequent activity. Weekly might be better than yearly.)

I have begun to post some of the new pieces I've been painting and will very shortly post information about this year's show.

There are a number of acrylic pieces almost completed and ready for framing so I had to get more frames. I took all they had and ordered more but don't worry, everything will be here before the show.

Speaking of the show, wouldn't it be great if the full moon illuminating the garden these past few evenings returns for for the Art Show.

There are many more almost completed pieces to add to the site and many more in various stages of development.

During the week, several people who have looked at the site called and asked to drop by and see some of the works - both completed and in progress. Some of them liked what they saw and so a few pieces will appear 'sold' as soon as they are posted.

Some of the painting I have done in my studio but I have also been working in the new tea house in the garden or garden house where I can take tea.

Many thanks to my friends Shelley and Bob who are responsible for the transition from old chicken coop/shed to wonderful, bright and welcoming garden house.

The photo shows the new incarnation and you will have a chance to see it yourselves when you visit, before, during or following the show.

Art Show 2010 - an update

There have been many changes to the web site and many more to the format of the annual Art Show.

This year's Art Show will be Saturday, September 25, 5:00 PM to 10:30 PM.

In discussions with many people, September 25 (one day) was deemed the optimum and fairest time for everyone. In previous years there have been difficulties with the start time on the Friday. Hopefully the planned changes for this year will make all aspects of the show equal for everyone.

Another major and very important difference about this year's show is that all pieces are subject to prior sale. This is the policy of most of the commercial galleries. There has always been a difficulty at 4:00 with several people wanting the same painting or people arriving and discovering the work they wanted has been sold. Nothing to date has been a fair or reasonable solution to this problem.

This year, as soon as a work is posted on the web site or if someone drops over and sees a work it may be purchased. Simply contact me should you see something you like. Additionall, drop by the studio to see what's in development or to see in person a work you saw on the web. Call or email to make sure I'll be home. The work will remain with me until the end of the show on the 25th of September and I fully expect that there will be works available at the show.

Saturday, September 25, come to the Art Show. It will again be in my garden so come before dinner, after dinner or bring a picnic.

Also, remember to check both the Latest Works and the Journal sections frequently. I'm adding things as soon as a piece 'in progress' is completed.

I hope you have noticed that under each of the entries is a place for you to comment. Hope you will!

Looking forward to hearing from you soon!

Here is another commissioned piece. It's quite a departure from my usual styles but it is wonderfully organic. Very few people saw it before it left Canada and those very few were surprised. It's not a 'typical' landscape.

Many didn't like it at first but as they looked into the painting they found something that held them and their initial reaction disappeared. It is a watercolour ( 18X22).

Commissions

I'm very fortunate. Sometimes people see a painting I've done and ask me to do one 'like it' for them.

The operative words are 'like it' as I can never really do the same painting twice.

This is similar to one from the 2009 show - the same view but a different interpretation, a different treatment. It is an acrylic on canvas (36X36).

Commissioned pieces are more difficult than just painting. I worry throughout the entire painting process of the commissioned piece whether or not the client will love the piece. So far I've been quite fortunate - they have.
